The Boone Creek Watershed Alliance (BCWA) is up and running implementing our four-fold mission of natural resource conservation, restoration, education and the promotion of wise land use planning. We welcome you to our website which we hope will inspire, inform and encourage you to become part of a group that has an exciting vision: a vision of preserving and enhancing the incredible natural resources within the Boone Creek Watershed----from the headwaters in Bull Valley to the highest quality portion of the creek in Whispering Oaks Park in McHenry--we have a gem that unites us all---Boone Creek and it's magnificent uplands, woodlands wetlands that make it one of the rarest natural areas in Northeastern Illinois. The BCWA has played an integral role in preserving over 80 acres of land near the headwaters--where Boone Creek begins its journey. In addition, we have partnered with other conservation groups and secured over $60,000 in grant monies for restoration of the rare wetlands and woodlands that are found in the upper reaches of Boone Creek. We offer educational tours of the natural areas within the watershed, restoration and native landscaping workshops and ongoing lectures related to the unique flora and fauna found in the watershed. We are currently working with the Mayors of Bull Valley and McHenry and also County Officials to devise a watershed plan, which will serve as a blueprint for natural resource conservation. This will ultimately enhance the quality of life for all those who visit and reside in our watershed. From natural areas preservation in the upper reaches of Boone Creek in Bull Valley, to a greenway corridor through the City of McHenry, we all have the opportunity to participate in preserving and enhancing the rarest of the rare: the Boone Creek Watershed. At this website you will learn what exactly is a watershed, what makes ours so unique and how you can play a role in the protection and restoration of the creek and the beautiful open spaces that enrich our lives.
